Creating a new ‘face’ for the world’s largest SME support network
The brief: Bringing brand guidelines to life
Enterprise Europe Network helps ambitious businesses innovate and grow internationally. We were commissioned to develop a new visual look and tone of voice for partners across England, Wales and Northern Ireland – staying consistent with European Commission-approved guidelines but projecting a strong UK identity.
Step 1: Audience research
We have interviewed more than 400 ambitious SMEs and used our network to find out what they were looking for in an innovation support network. We found that growing businesses sought emotional support as well as hard facts.
Step 2: Creative concepting
We developed three possible creative routes, mocking up brochures, leaflets, banners and websites to bring our designs to life. EEN selected our ‘human-led’ concept as the clear winner. We also developed tone of voice guidelines, conveying key principles through annotated text.
Step 3: Rolling out the winning identity
Animated infographics, brochures, leaflets, PowerPoint presentations, social media assets, flyers, newsletters, letterheads, business cards and pull-up banners – there was barely a promotional material that we didn’t produce for EEN.
Step 4: Measuring success
Between Jan 2015 and March 2018, EEN advised and supported 8,107 SMEs, some 1,674 of which went on to collaborate internationally. We are proud to have contributed to the network’s ongoing success.
